First Rant
I've been so busy this past week. The Fremont Chamber of Commerce has these groups called connection clubs. I attended 5 or 6 of them last week along with a chamber mixer. So far the chamber has already resulted in three new clients. All of them are personal training, which is fine because Talli really enjoys personal training people. Now time for a rant. I'm really upset today because of a few clients that we've had lately. They're absolute jerks who care for nothing and nobody, but themselves. What's more they believe that everything is somebody else's fault and that any problem they have should be taken care of by someone else because it's someone else's fault that they have the problem. I blame the media and society for creating a country of victims. Everybody's health problems are caused by someone else, not by the fact that they eat like pigs and don't exercise or take care of themselves. Here's an example. We have a large man, 300+ pounds, who comes to our clinic. He had an injured shoulder. He could only lift 3 pounds over his head and not straight. We got him to the point where he can easily and properly lift 10 pounds over his head with his injured arm. A week ago his other arm started hurting because while he's at home he compensates for his bad arm by using his good arm more. Nothing odd in that, he just wasn't careful enough. So he goes to his workers comp adjuster and says that he doesn't know why it's hurting, so they say then we won't pay for it because it's not work related. Then he goes to his other insurance and says that he's not sure when he injured it, it could be at therapy for all he knows. So they say if it was at therapy then it's workers comp, so they won't pay for it. Meanwhile, he's hurting and because he was an idiot, nobody will pay for it. So, whose fault is it now? Ours he said. We made him lift too much weight with his good arm. (As a side note, for work he's required to lift 50 lbs. Oh and we have a female patient with MS that lifts that much over her head. My wife lifts 35 and I lift 55 and we're not exactly behemoths. She's 116 and I'm 165.) So, his argument holds no water and the workers comp adjuster told us so. Meanwhile, we have to deal with him now saying that he's offended that we asked for his copay before of $15. We let him know that his insurance dictates that and not us. It really makes my wife mad because Minerva (our other therapist) and her give everything to their patients to make sure they get better. We don't short change anyone and for them to turn on us because they're stupid, well it just isn't right and Talli takes it personally, as do I to some degree. We treat people as the people they are and for them to turn on us the second they have a problem and not treat us as people shows their poor character. At least I expect it from people. Talli doesn't. She thinks that people are good and kind if you treat them nicely. I know differently and she's learning the truth of that the hard way. I wish she didn't have to. Enough of my rant. The In Stride's Online Store is complete. Now I'm back to working on the website. Well, time for me to go, I have to head to a 11:45 connection club meeting at The Original Pancake House.
